FRESNO, Calif. - A day after suffering a stunning and abrupt end to his quest for an NCAA singles championship, Peter Luczak began his journey for a doubles title by teaming with partner David Mullins to defeat San Diego State's Oliver Maiberger and Adam Webster 7-5, 6-2 in the first round of the NCAA doubles tournament.

A 5-8 seed in the tournament, Mullins and Luczak will take on TCU's Trace Fielding and Jimmy Haney in the second round. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. PDT.

Mullins and Luczak have played Fielding and Haney this season, defeating them 8-4 when the Horned Frogs and Bulldogs squared off in the finals of the WAC championships. The Fresno State duo has not played Shortall and Stahlberg.
