FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's doubles tandem of David Mullins and Peter Luczak were upset by TCU's Trace Fielding and Jimmy Haney 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the NCAA doubles championships Saturday afternoon at Henry Feild Stadium in Athens, Ga.
The loss completes the season and the careers of both players.
Mullins and Luczak will not leave the tournament empty-handed, however. As a result of their 5-8 seeding in the NCAA's, the duo achieved All-America status. In addition, Luczak was named an All-American in singles, making him the first Bulldog men's tennis player to earn All-America honors in both singles and doubles in the same season.
The victory by Haney and Fielding avenges a loss suffered to Luczak and Mullins when TCU and Fresno State squared off in the finals of the WAC championships April 29.
