FRESNO, Calif. - Fresh from her tryouts for the Bay Area Cyber Rays of the new Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) Kelly Wilson was named the Fresno State women's soccer assistant coach after spending last season as an assistant coach for the Sonoma State Cossacks who captured their third straight CCAA North Division title and finished the 2000 season with a spectacular 14-5-3 record.
Prior to Sonoma State, Wilson was the assistant coach for the University of Denver women's soccer program, working primarily with daily skills development of the athletes while also serving as the recruiting and travel coordinator. She served as the Fort Collins Force reserve squad head coach, where she was in charge of summer conditioning along with conducting and developing training sessions.
Wilson graduated from Indiana University in 1998 with a degree in Public and Environmental Affairs. She played for the Hoosiers from 1994-97, and was named the team captain in 1996-97. She was a member of the Hoosiers squad that captured the Big Ten Championship in 1996. Upon Completion of her Hoosier career Wilson played with the Fort Collins Force for two seasons, before traveling abroad to play for Horsens-Denmark for a season. She returned to the United States, and was the last player released by the Bay Area Cyber Rays after one month of training camp.
Wilson holds a "C" license from the United States soccer federation and was awarded the Walt Chyzowych Scholarship.
"I am very excited to add Kelly to my staff," head coach Stacy Welp said. "She is a valuable asset to the future success of the team. Her playing experience along with her coaching experience are a great combination that will help the team realize what they need to do to achieve their goals this season."
