FRESNO, Calif. - Senior quarterback David Carr has been named the 23rd best senior prospect by Mel Kiper, Jr., ESPN's NFL draft expert. Kiper also listed Carr as the fourth best senior quarterback prospect in the nation.
"Carr possesses a remarkable strength quotient and brings a linebacker's frame and approach to the QB position," Kiper writes. "Heading into the 2001 campaign, he ranks as one of the underpublicized blue-chip prospects in the nation."
Only Kurt Kittner of Illinois, Joey Harrington of Oregon and David Garrard of East Carolina ranked above Carr on the senior quarterback list.
Carr enters the 2001 season off a stellar junior year which saw him start all 12 games, throw for 2,729 yards and 23 touchdowns. The second-team All-WAC pick helped lead the Bulldogs to a 7-5 (6-2 WAC) record an a berth in the Silicon Valley Football Classic, in which he passed for 391 yards and five touchdowns, both career highs.
Fresno State opens the 2001 season Sunday at Colorado in the Jim Thorpe Classic at 5 p.m. PDT. The game will be televised by ESPN2.
