UFL season underway

FRESNO, Calif. - As the United Football League kicks off its season, a handful of former Fresno State football players continue their professional careers in the league.

The Houston Gamblers sport the most former Bulldogs on their roster with three – Carlton Johnson (DB), Jalen Moreno-Cropper (WR) and Cam Sutton (TE). In his first season in the UFL after spending three with the Dallas Cowboys, Moreno-Cropper had an electric debut with a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown last weekend. He also added five receptions for 59 yards in the season opener. Johnson had two tackles and a pass breakup in his first game with the Gamblers while Sutton added three catches for 43 yards in the season opener.

A pair of offensive linemen in the UFL have Fresno State ties in Alex Akingbulu (Dallas Renegades) and Mose Vavao (Orlando Storm).

The St. Louis Battlehawks also signed Leonard Payne who finished his collegiate career at Colorado but played five seasons at Fresno State (2018-22).
