Wright, Simpson Named WAC Football Players of the Week

DENVER - Fresno State wide receiver Rodney Wright, Rice defensive end Brandon Green and Fresno State punter Jason Simpson were named the offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Wright, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif. (Bakersfield HS), caught seven passes for a career-high 182 yards and two touchdowns in Fresno State's 44-24 win over Oregon State. His first touchdown came in the third quarter and went for 70 yards. His final catch of the game was a 32-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter that gave the Bulldogs a 38-21 lead.
Green, a junior from Vanderbilt, Texas (Industrial HS), tallied nine tackles including three sacks for 10 yards and another tackle for a loss of three yards in Rice's 21-14 win at Houston. Green was a key part of Rice's defense that held Houston to just seven yards rushing, the third lowest defensive total in Owl history.
Simpson, a junior from Garden Grove, Calif. (Fullerton JC), punted four times for a 48.0-yard average in the Bulldogs' win against Oregon State. He had a long of 51 yards and put two inside the 20-yard line.
Other offensive nominees included sophomore quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie, Boise State, sophomore quarterback Kyle Herm, Rice, and junior quarterback Josh Blankenship, Tulsa.
On the defensive side, nominees included senior linebacker Greg Sasser, Boise State, sophomore safety Bryce McGill, Fresno State, senior defensive back Jason Olford, Louisiana Tech, and junior rover Keithan McCorry, Tulsa.
Special team nominations included sophomore kick returner David Mikell, Boise State.
