FRESNO, Calif. - After two rounds of the Fresno State-Lexus Golf Classic San Diego State (292-288) and UTEP (294-286) are tied for first with 580.
Notre Dame is sitting in second place after the second round with a score of 582 (288-294), while Fresno State lies under them in third with a score of 584 (289-295). Denver is in fourth with a score of 287 (296-291), Pacific in fifth with a score of 591 (293-298), Arizona State in sixth, 593 (305-288), Augusta State in seventh, (596 (303-293), tied for eighth is San Jose with 598 (301-297) and Nevada with 598 (314-284), Long Beach in tenth, 599 (301-298), Utah in 11th, 600 (304-296), UC Santa Barbara in 12th, 608 (305-303), Louisiana Monroe in 13th, 613 (305-308), Hawaii in 14th, 618 (312-306), and Fresno State #2 team in 15th, 621 (319-302).
Due to the darkness, two teams did not finish the second round. BYU and Colorado State will resume the second round Sat. Oct. 12.
"We were glad that we had a chance to finish the second round, though near darkness it may have caused us a few strokes. We are still in the hunt, it will take a very good round to catch up to BYU," head coach Mike Watney said.
Individually, senior Nick Watney is tied for first with a score of 139 (69-70) with Mark Warman of San Diego State 139 (68-71). Junior Chad Spencer is tied for third with a score of 140 (68-72) with Brandon Lunke of Notre Dame 140 (69-71).
"The tournament so far is mixed with very good golf and not so good golf," head coach Mike Watney said. "I am pleased overall, Nick and Chad are doing great."
The Fresno State-Lexus Classic will continue Sat. Oct. 12 at San Joaquin Country Club.
