THIS WEEK IN GOLF
Fresno State will be heading to Cal this week to attend the Alister MacKenzie Invitational. Cal has invited 16 schools including Fresno State. The tournament will be held at Meadow Club golf course in Fairfax, Calif. The course is 6,585 yards and is a par-71. Bulldogs that are attending will be Nick Watney, Chad Spencer, Ryan Carter, Ryan McDonald, and George McKean.
'DOGS CLINCH CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AT FRESNO STATE-LEXUS CLASSIC
The 'Dogs captured the title as champions this past weekend in the Fresno State-Lexus Golf Classic held at San Joaquin Country Club. Fresno State finished 6-over-par finishing with a final score of 870 (289-295-286). Fresno State's No.2 team finished 17th with a final score of 921 (319-302-300). 'Dogs on the Fresno State team were senior Nick Watney, junior Chad Spencer, sophomore Ryan Carter, freshman Ryan McDonald and freshman Jeremy Moreno. 'Dogs on Fresno State #2 team were sophomore Tony Harmon, sophomore Ian Nelson, sophomore George McKean, sophomore Mark Modglin and freshman Tyler Sanders.
WATNEY RAN AWAY WITH INDIVIDUAL TITLE
Senior Nick Watney (DIxon, Calif.) ran away with the trophy this weekend at the Fresno State-Lexus Golf Classic. He finished with a final score of 204 (69-70-65). Watney was 12-under-par. Junior Chad Spencer (Rocklin, Calif.) tied for third with a score of 210 (68-72-70),with sophomore George McKean (Kingsburg, Calif.) finished 32nd with a score of 224 (77-72-75), sophomore Tony Harmon (Upland, Calif.) finished 62nd with a score of 229 (80-74-75), sophomore Ryan Carter (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) tied for 66th with a score of 230 (75-76-79) sophomore Ian Nelson (Canyon Lake, Calif.) 232 (79-81-72), freshman Jeremy Moreno (Visalia, Calif.) finished 72nd with a score of 232 (77-81-74), freshman Ryan McDonald (Rocklin, Calif.) tied for 79th with a score of 234 (80-77-77), and freshmen Tyler Sanders, 241 (83-80-78) and Mark Modglin (Simi Valley, Calif.), 241 (85-76-80), tied for 87th.
WATNEY INVITED TO ALL-AMERICA GOLF CLASSIC
Watney has been invited to the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, held in El Paso, Texas, on Nov. 25-26. There will be 24 All-Americans participating in this tournament. Watney finished second last year with a score of 203 (68-65-70).
GOLFWORLD MAGAZINE RANKS WATNEY NO. 2 IN NATION
Watney has been ranked No. 2 in the nation in the the Sept. 6 issue of GolfWorld Magazine's collegiate golf rankings. Watney has posted three wins and 13 top ten finishes this past season. Above him ranked No.1, lies D.J. Trahan from Clemson who has set the school single-seaon marks in wins, and sub-70 rounds. Watney defeated Trahan in the Topy Cup Tournament earlier in the season.
