The 'Dogs are heading to San Diego to compete in the Aztec International, Mon.-Tues., Oct. 21-22, at Barona Creek Golf Course. Barona Creek is a Par 216 and 7,088 yards. Four of the 'Dogs attending are senior Nick Watney(DIxon, Calif.), junior Chad Spencer (Rocklin, Calif.), freshman Ryan McDonald (Rocklin, Calif.), sophomore Ryan Carter(Hacienda Heights, Calif.), and the fifth golfer is to be announced. Watney took the championship last year with a score of 206 (69-67-70), while Fresno State finished fourth.
WATNEY RANKED NO.1 IN THE NATION
Senior Nick Watney has been ranked No.1 in two national polls released Oct. 17 in the Golfstat Cups Standings and the GolfWeek/Sagarin Performance Index. Watney won his fourth consecutive title this past weekend at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational which helped Watney leap to the No. 1 spot. Watney has a season scoring average of 68.67. "In college it's rare to win four tournaments in a career," said head coach Mike Watney, who is in his 25th season. "Nick has built such an impressive resume." Watney enters his senior year with a scoring average of 71.53.
'DOGS ADD ANOTHER VICTORY
The Bulldogs swept away with the championship with a final score of 841. 17 teams participated this past week in the Alister MacKenzie Invitaional hosted by Cal. The 'Dogs that attended were senior Nick Watney sweeping away with his fourth win this season alone with a final score of 202 (67-67-68) , junior Chad Spencer finished fifth with a score of 207 (68-69-70) freshman Ryan McDonald finished ninth with a score of 210 (66-69-75), sophomore Ryan Carter finished 49th with a score of 222 (74-72-76), and sophomore George McKean finished 83rd with a score of 235(78-78-79).
'DOGS CLINCH CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AT FRESNO STATE-LEXUS CLASSIC
The 'Dogs captured the title at the Fresno State-Lexus Golf Classic held at San Joaquin Country Club, Oct. 11-12. Fresno State finished 6-over-par finishing with a final score of 870 (289-295-286). Fresno State's No.2 team finished 17th with a final score of 921 (319-302-300). 'Dogs on the Fresno State team were senior Nick Watney , junior Chad Spencer , sophomore Ryan Carter, freshman Ryan McDonald and freshman Jeremy Moreno (Visalia, Calif.) . 'Dogs on Fresno State #2 team were sophomore Tony Harmon (Upland, Calif.), sophomore Ian Nelson(Canyon Lake, Calif.), sophomore George McKean (Kingsburg, Calif.), sophomore Mark Modglin (Simi Valeey, Calif.) and freshman Tyler Sanders.
WATNEY RAN AWAY WITH INDIVIDUAL TITLE
Watney captured first at the Fresno State-Lexus Classic with a final score of 204 (69-70-65), Spencer tied for third with a score of 210 (68-72-70), McKean finished 38th with a score of 224 (77-72-75), Harmon finished 62nd with a score of 229 (80-74-75), Carter tied for 66th with a score of 230 (75-76-79), Nelson, 232 (79-81-72)tied for 66th with Moreno, 232 (77-81-74), McDonald tied for 79th with a score of 234 (80-77-77), Sanders, 241 (83-80-78) T87 with Modglin, 241 (85-76-80).
