Watney Earns WAC Golfer of the Month

FRESNO, Calif- Senior Nick Watney (Dixon, Calif.) captures the Western Athletic Conference's Golfer of the Month for October. Watney beat out six other nominees.
The two-time GCAA Ping All-American has gained four consecutive individual titles out of five tournaments, to add to his list of successes this fall season. He took first in the Topy Cup with a score of 203, held in Tanagura, Japan, the Inverness Intercollegiate with a score of 215, held in Toledo, Ohio, the Fresno State-Lexus Classic with a score of 204, and the Alister MacKenzie Invitational with a score of 202, hosted by Cal. Watney's stroke average this season is 69.07 and his all-time scoring average is 71.53.
Watney has already set the school's single season scoring record (70.53) last season and was honored as the2000-01 WAC Player of the Year. Watney's success has lead him to be nationally ranked No. 1 by GolfWeek magazine in Oct. 16th's issue.
Watney and the other Bulldogs will continue their season Mon.-Tues., Feb. 3-4 at the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate, hosted by Arizona.
