Fresno State Maintains Top Five Placing
The team placed fourth in the the Cleveland Golf Southwestern Intercollegiate March 4-5 and second at the "Bite" Pacific Coast Invitational. The team now has three first place finishes (Fresno, Pacific, Arizona), two second place finishes Pepperdine, Bite), two third place finishes (Bakersfield, Hawaii) and two fourth place finishes (Aztec, Cleveland).
Bulldogs in the Rankings
*Golfweek lists the team at No. 9. Watney is ranked 12th. Echols is 52nd.
*Precept GCAA Top-25 Coaches Poll lists the team sixth.
*Golfstat ranks the team No. 8 and Watney is in second place for the Golfstat cup behind Clemson's D.J. Trahan. Watney's scoring average is 70.14 and Trahan's is 69.86.
Golf Takes Fourth Place at USC on March 4-5
After a few weeks off, the team played in the Cleveland Golf Southwestern Intercollegiate. The team placed fourth out of 16 teams with a score of 876. Senior Jonathan Echols (Hanford, Calif.) finished in 24th place with 72-74-76-222. Sophomore Chad Spencer (Rocklin Calif.) finished in 54th place and shot 73-78-78-229. Senior Dustin Smith (Crescent City, Calif.) placed 68th and shot 74-87-73-234.
Watney Named WAC Player of the Week
Bulldog junior Nick Watney (Dixon, Calif.) tied for second place in USC. Watney shot 72-70-69-211. He has placed second in Savane, Arizona, Hawaii, and Cleveland. He also has two wins this season (Lexus, Aztec). He was named Western Athletic Player of the Week for March 4-8.
Carter's on Fire
Freshman Ryan Carter (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) has proved to be a vital part of the Bulldog squad. Carter placed 17th at the Cleveland tournament. He shot a 75-74-71-220. Carter then placed 21st at the "Bite" with a score of 71-74-78-223.
'Dogs Traveled to Santa Barbara March 7-8
The Bulldogs finished in second place out of 19 teams with 878 in the "Bite" Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. San Diego State won the tournament with 866. UC Davis was third (884), CSU Bakersfield placed fourth (886) and Pacific took the fifth position (890).
Entire Bulldog Squad Places in the Top 50 at UCSB
Watney placed eighth with a score of 71-72-76-219. Echols placed eighth 74-71-74-219. Smith placed 17th and had a final score of 78-75-69-222. Carter shot 71-74-78-223 and placed 21st. Freshman Tony Harmon (Upland, Calif.) placed 43rd in the tournament with 76-76-75-227.
