On watching practice
"About the only thing I know right now in Houston is football. As you can see, I've got one grasped in my arm. It was exciting. This is a first-class operation and I'm really excited to be a part of it."
On his first impressions
"Kent's (Graham) a great guy, all of the quarterbacks are great. It was good getting to see them, getting to meet Tony (Boselli) and getting to meet everybody. They're all first-class guys and I'm excited. It was fun being out here and seeing the ball get thrown around a little bit."
On what he's been doing since his arrival
"Trying to get some furniture for my house. I was excited to come out here and get to see this. I've been around town and seen a lot of the people and they're all excited about the team and everything that's going on."
On joining the team for his first practice after the draft
"I'm also excited about getting on the field. This is all fun, all the stuff that comes before. I'm excited about getting on the field though because that's where I'm most comfortable and that's what I'm excited to get to."
On comparing himself to the other quarterbacks
"I'm going to try and come in and do what I'm supposed to do. I'm supposed to run the plays this way. I'm going to try and fit in as much as I can. I'm just trying to win football games basically and if I can do that then I'm excited about it."
On the Texans playbook
"It's a little bit thicker than the Fresno State playbook. I think we had two or three protections back home, we have two or three hundred here."
On comparing the offenses of Fresno State and Houston
"We ran a pro-style offense so I'm excited about getting out here and running on a pro-style team. I'm excited, I can't express it."
On offensive coordinator Chris Palmer
"He's a great quarterbacks coach and a great person too. He's someone you can learn from and hang out with off of the field and kind of get to know as a person. That, along with the relationship between a player and a head coach, and a player and his quarterback coach, that's really important. That's something that I had at Fresno and something that I hope to continue."
On former quarterbacks who have been number one picks
"I'm excited about joining that class. There are some great football players that you named. I just want to come in here and earn the first pick. There are a lot of guys that don't live up to their expectations and don't live up to what they're supposed to do. I want to do more than I'm supposed to do. I still feel that I have a lot to learn, a lot to do physically and I have a lot of room to grow."
On getting to Houston before the draft
"Ever since I first met coach Palmer back in October, meeting all of these people, it's been a good experience. Making a decision this early, I'm excited about it, It's going to be huge for me in my development because I don't have to go through getting lost on 610 when I'm trying to get ready for minicamp so it's going to help."
On Kent Graham
"I had heard he was a good guy. Trent Dilfer, who I'm friends with back home, talked very highly of him. Getting out here and spending some time with him, he's a great guy and a great football player."
On being competitive with Graham
"Every day that I come out to practice I'm going to play as hard as I can and give it everything I have. Time will tell what happens. I'm just going to work as hard as I can each day in practice. This is the NFL, everyone's going to be competitive. They wouldn't be here if they weren't good football players and they weren't competitive people. I'm going to come out here and compete just like Kent, and we're going to have fun doing it too. We're just going to try and help the team win. That's the most important thing is winning football games."
