Fresno State Travels to BYU April 19-20
The team will golf in its last regular season tournament this week. Five Bulldogs will compete at the Cougar Classic at the Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah.
Bulldogs Take Second in Santa Cruz
Fresno State placed second out of 17 teams in last week's Western Intercollegiate at the Pasatiempo G.C. in Santa Cruz, Calif. The team shot a 854 to place behind Washington's 834. Four 'Dogs finished in the top 25.
Smith is Back with a Vengeance
Senior Dustin Smith (Crescent City, Calif.) finished sixth at the Western Intercollegiate. He struggled at the Morris Williams Invitational in Texas but Smith is back on top. Smith shot two under par rounds at Pasatiempo to finish tied for sixth. His final score was 74-69-68-211.
'Dogs do Damage at Pasatiempo
Junior Nick Watney (Dixon, Calif.) placed fifth with a score of 69-72-69-210. Senior Jonathan Echols (Hanford, Calif.) tied for 19th with 70-75-72-217. Freshman Ryan Carter (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) tied for 25th and shot 69-76-74-219. Sophomore Chad Spencer (Rocklin Calif.) placed 67th and shot 81-73-74-228.
Last Season's Results at the Western
Last year Fresno State placed 10th with 885 (+45). Watney placed T22nd with 219 (+9). Smith placed T40 with 223 (+13) and Echols placed T74 with 223 (+13). Oregon won with 850 (+10) and San Diego State's Lars Johnson won with 206 (-4).
Bulldogs in the Rankings
*Golfweek lists the team at No. 10. Watney is ranked ninth. *Precept GCAA Top-25 Coaches Poll lists the team seventh. *Golfstat ranks the team No.14. In the Golfstat Cup race, Watney is in sixth place.
