The Bulldogs have a perfect 15-0 all-time record against Pacific. The two teams last hooked up in 2001, a 7-0 victory for Fresno State at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The Bulldogs have blanked the Tigers in four of the last six matches between the two.
BULLDOGS BUCK BRONCOS FOR TWO MORE HOME WINS
Fresno State pulled out two home wins last weekend, defeating Boise State 5-2 then squeaking by Santa Clara 4-3. Against the BSU Broncos, the Bulldogs dropped the doubles point but rallied to win five of six singles matches, all in straight sets. On Sunday, Fresno State battled the SCU Broncos on a day where the temperatures neared 90 degrees. The Bulldogs were once again forced to come back after dropping the doubles point and falling behind 3-1. Dustin Ilic began the comeback with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win at No. 6. Hector Almada followed with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 triumph at No. 1, and then Stefan Suta clinched the victory at No. 3 with a gritty 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win at No. 3. The Bulldogs are now 6-2 at home this year.
ALMADA PLAYING WELL
Prior to the April 5 match at Pepperdine, sophomore Hector Almada, who had played primarily at No. 2 singles during the year, was moved up to the No. 1 spot, and nearly pulled off a huge upset. In falling to Al Garland, the top-ranked player in college tennis, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, Almada proved he could compete against the best in the nation. In his two matches at No. 1 since, Almada has won both and is now 11-7 in dual matches on the season, the best mark on the team. Interestingly, Almada could be 3-0 at No. 1 singles right now - he had two match points in his loss against Garland.
