WAC Tournament on Deck for Men's Tennis

Fresno State heads to Tulsa, Okla., this week for the 2002 WAC Tennis Tournament, to be competed at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Bulldogs' first round opponent and match time will all be determined later this week. Fresno State won the WAC in 1996 and '99 and lost in the championship match last year.
FRESNO STATE ALL-TIME vs. THE WAC
The Bulldogs own a 27-5 all-time record against schools from the Western Athletic Conference. Here is a breakdown of Fresno State's all-time record against other conference schools: Boise State (11-2), Tulsa (3-1), SMU (3-2), Hawai'i (5-0), Nevada (5-0). This year, the Bulldogs have played three WAC teams - SMU, Nevada and Boise State. Fresno State lost to the Mustangs in Dallas 4-3 and defeated the Broncos 5-2 and the Wolf Pack 7-0, the latter two matches being played in Fresno.
IN THE RANKINGS
Four WAC teams are currently ranked in the latest Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings. SMU is the top ranked school, coming in at No. 31. Other teams who appear are No. 39 Tulsa, No. 51 Rice and No. 64 Fresno State.
BULLDOGS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH WIN
Fresno State closed out the 2001-02 regular season with a 6-1 victory over Pacific at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The win improved the Bulldogs' record to 7-15 and was the team's seventh in nine home matches. Senior Nick Fustar capped his career by winning his final match at home, a 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles.
ALMADA PLAYING WELL
Hector Almada continued his solid play as of late with an easy 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles against Pacific. The sophomore has now won three of his four matches at the top singles spot, the lone loss coming to No. 1-ranked Al Garland of Pepperdine, to whom Almada fell 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 despite having two match points.
