Track and Field Concludes 2002 Regular Season at Modesto Relays

MODESTO, Calif. - The Fresno State track and field team concluded its 2002 regular season this Saturday, May 11, at the Modesto Relays in Modesto, Calif. The men totaled four top 10 finishes, while the women recorded 10 top 10 ranks.
Junior Kyle Carano led the Bulldogs with his second place finish in the triple jump. He landed with a mark of 50-1.75. Senior Roosevelt Cook and junior Alex Mason finished seventh and ninth in the 800 meters. Cook crossed in a time of 1:52.80, while Mason followed at 1:53.22. Sophomore Joe Vasquez and senior Mike Guidry landed the 10th and 11th places of shot put event. Vasquez threw 52-00.50, while Guidry marked at 47-11.25.
On the women's side, seniors Andrea Stelter and April Wiechmann finished two-three in the hammer throw. Stelter threw 180-00, while Wiechmann was next at 177-6. Freshmen Ocie Parks and Crystal Phillips had a similar standing in the 100-meter dash. Parks crossed in second with a time of 11.88, while Phillips was close behind at 11.97. Junior Crystal Simmons recorded a second place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 40-4. Also, senior Bergann Hernandez inked a height of 12-1.50 in the pole vault for fifth place.
The Bulldogs now turn their attention to the 2002 Western Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Rice, May 15-18, in Houston, Texas.
