Golf Team to Compete in NCAA Championships This Week

Fresno State Heads to NCAA Championships
After placing ninth at the West Regional, the Bulldogs will compete Wednesday-Saturday at the 2002 NCAA Championships. The tournamnet will be at Ohio State University's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State University will host this year's championships.
Scarlet Course Facts
The par 72 course is 7,236 yards. It was designed by Dr. Alister Mackenzie in 1938. Bulldog alumnus and first team All-American Tim Norris holds the competitive course record 66.
Spencer Back in the Lineup
Sophomore Chad Spencer (Rocklin, Calif.) will be back to assist the Bulldogs in the fifth position at the NCAA Championships. He will join WAC Player of the Year Nick Watney (Dixon, Calif.), Jonathan Echols (Hanford, Calif.), Dustin Smith (Crescent City, Calif.) and Ryan Carter (Hacienda Heights, Calif.).
Bulldog Rankings
GCAA list the team tied for eighth with TCU. Golfweek lists the team 15th and Nick Watney eighth. GolfStat lists the team 17th. Nick Watney is fouth and Jonathan Echols is 47th in the Golfstat Cup.
Bulldogs Finish Ninth at West Regional
The fouth seeded Bulldogs took ninth place with a score of 879 at the at the UNM Championships GC in Albuquerque, N.M. on May 16-18. The team faced 27 teams and six individuals.
Three Bulldogs Finish in Top-29 at West Regional
Watney finished third. His score is 74-69-71-214(-2). Echols tied for 14th with 70-72-75-217(+1). Smith tied for 29th and has a score of 70-75-75-220(+4).
