FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State signed two Fresno City College pitchers for the 2003 season. Left-hander David Griffin (Chowchilla, Calif.) and right-hander Chris Davis (Fresno, Calif.) each signed a letter of intent.
While at Fresno City College, Davis and Griffin led the Rams to 41-10 and 39-9 records in the 2001 and 2002 seasons, respectively. Griffin was 7-3 with a 2.81 ERA, including seven saves in 24 appearances and five starts his sophomore season. Davis was 5-2 with a 2.96 ERA in 14 appearances and 11 starts his sophomore year.
Griffin was an All-Central Valley Conference first-team honoree as a relief pitcher and led the Rams in saves (seven) his sophomore year.
"We want to make a special effort to keep the best pitchers from the Valley at Fresno State," said head coach Mike Batesole. "We are getting two established, quality pitchers. I'm very happy that we are able to get players from the Fresno City program because it is such a respected program and has produced a lot of great players."
