FRESNO, Calif. - Coming off one of the greatest seasons in school history, Fresno State's football program will receive unprecedented television exposure in 2002. The Bulldogs will make seven national television appearances in 2002, most in a regular season in school history. The seven games equals the total for the 2001 season, which included the Silicon Valley Football Classic, carried on Fox Sports Net.
"Having 14 nationally televised games over a two-year period is tremendous exposure for our football program, university and community," said Scott Johnson, Director of Athletics. "Seven regular season nationally televised games is really unheard of. That shows there's a lot of interest nationally about Bulldog football."
Fresno State's 13-game schedule equals the number of regular season games as the 2001 season, most-ever in school history. The Bulldogs are coming off an 11-3 overall record and third consecutive bowl appearance.
Six of Fresno State's games will be shown on either ESPN or ESPN 2. That is the most scheduled appearances on those networks by any team in the nation this season.
"This is a great schedule," said head coach Pat Hill. "For the second season in a row we are having our first three games of the season on national television. That's great for our program. We need to continue to have that type of national presence."
