Ruthven Named NECBL Player of the Week

FRESNO, Calif. - Freshman right-hand pitcher Sean Ruthven (Alpharetta, Ga.) was named New England Collegiate Baseball League Player of the Week (June 19-25). Ruthven, who plays for the North Adams Steeple Cats, shared Player of the Week honors with pitcher Chris Lambert of the Concord Quarry Dogs.
In his second start of the season, Ruthven no-hit the Danbury Westeners for eight innings before allowing back-to-back singles in the ninth. Ruthven wound pitching a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and three walks. He improved his record to 2-0 on the season.
In three appearances in summer league ball, Ruthven is 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 13 strikeouts. The shutout against the Westerners was his first complete game of the season.
Last season with Fresno State, Ruthven was 2-3 with a 7.87 ERA, including 40 strikeouts. He made two starts and earned a win in his first, which was against Gonzaga in the Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic.
