Runyon Drafted in 12th Round by the St. Louis Cardinals

FRESNO, Calif. - Senior right-hand pitcher Bob Runyon was the drafted in the 12th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. The Atwater, Calif. native was the 372nd pick overall. Runyon joins junior Ben Fritz as the two Bulldog pitchers to be drafted on the first day of the draft.
Runyon went 10-8 with a 4.36 ERA with nine complete games, including a shutout. He led the Fresno State staff in wins, complete games, strikeouts (119) and innings pitched (142.1). Four times this season, he struck out double-digit batters, including a career-high 12 against Sacramento State, May 3.
Former Bulldog Mike Hernandez was also drafted on the first day of the draft. Hernandez, who made 15 appearances for Fresno State this season through April, was drafted in the sixth round (184th overall) by the Cleveland Indians. Hernandez was 1-2 with a 5.97 ERA and five saves this season while on the team.
