FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State opens the 2002 football campaign today as the freshmen and newcomers report to training camp. The rookies will practice twice a day on Monday (10 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.) and Tuesday (9:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.). Those practices are open to the media and general public. The Bulldogs are holding training camp on the Fresno State campus.
With just 25 days before the August 23 season opener at Wisconsin, head coach Pat Hill and the Bulldogs will take on the longest regular season in school history. The Bulldogs close the regular season on Dec. 5 at Louisiana Tech.
"We are excited to get going," said Hill. "We have a lot of talent coming back but we only have 25 days before the opener so we have a lot of work to do to get ready for Wisconsin."
The veteran players will report to camp on Wednesday, July 31 for a team dinner. Fresno State's media day is scheduled for Thursday, August 1, and the first practice with all players will be at 10:15 a.m. on August 2. The Bulldogs will go through two-a-day practices until Thursday, August 15. The morning practices will be at 10:15 a.m. and the evening practices will be held at 7:45 p.m. The first scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday, August 10.
Each practice is open to the media and general public until the conclusion of the special teams segment of the practice. After that, only those individuals with a "guest" pass will be allowed to stay for the remainder of practice. Guest passes are available at the football office.
Fresno State is coming off an 11-3 record and a No. 23 national regular season ranking. The Bulldogs have played in a bowl game for three consecutive years.
Season tickets for the 2002 campaign are available at the Bulldog Ticket Office (559) 278-DOGS or online at www.gobulldogs.com.
