FRESNO STATE
- Head Coach Pat Hill
"I'm proud as hell of this team. We gave a great effort, and getting a win is the name of the game. I give San Diego State a lot of credit. They have better athletes than Wisconsin, I can tell you that. They were not as physical, but they had more speed than Wisconsin. They played very hard, and I think they will win some games this year."
"I don't know what we have to do to shore up our penalties. But we are really not getting the job done. I'm not sure what the deal is. We really have to take a hard look at that, because they are just killing us."
"I thought Paul Pinegar played very well. The key to a quarterback's success is ball security. He had one fumble, and that was it. I thought he made some big-time throws out there tonight, and under the circumstances, I thought he played very well."
"We will have to play better and get better to beat Oregon next week. And we certainly have to cut out our penalties. But overall I'm very happy with our performance tonight. This was Bulldog football."
SAN DIEGO STATE
- Head coach Tom Craft
"We were 17-point underdogs, playing on the road, against a team that won 11 games last year, with 16 starters returning, with more than a week of practice than up and one game under their belt. And I think you saw a real improvement from the start of the game until the end of the game. We decided at halftime to commit to our no-huddle, and the guys did a magnificent job with it. We put ourselves in the perfect situation, with the ball on the 16-yard line, with the ball almost in the middle of the field. Unfortunately, we had a bad snap, and the kick was a little late, and they blocked it up the middle."
"One of the things we talked about is that we were going to put ourselves in a position to win and be successful, and we did that tonight."
"I was really proud of our defense hanging in there. They were on the field for over 40 plays in the first half. They hung in, and our offense showed some resiliency. I'm real proud of Adam Hall. He was a little shaky to begin with, but you don't jerk a guy out of there because you don't have any points at halftime. You evolve, and you keep improving. And he's an example of what our football team is going to be this year."
* Quarterback Adam Hall
"That's football. A [60]-minute game came down to the last two seconds. We'll bounce back, though. This will make us stronger. "
"We'll be spreading the ball around this year. It's going to be fun. J.R. [Tolver] played incredible."
"For our first game, Fresno State is a great time, but in my mind, we are a really good team."
* Wide Receiver J.R. Tolver
"A loss is a loss. [Just because we were close], it doesn't help. It doesn't hide the pain. We are 0-1 right now, and we have to dig ourselves out of a hole. As far as going out there in the second half, staying tough, playing hard, making plays, we did that tonight. We showed that we were resilient. And it just didn't work out tonight, but over the next 12 games, it will work out."
