BULLDOGS HEAD TO TOLEDO
The 2002 Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational will be held in Toledo,Ohio, starting Monday. Among the 15 schools that are participating will be Toledo, Alabama-Birmingham, Florida, Georgia, Fresno State, Illinios, Kansas, Kansas State, Kent State, Kentucky, Long Beach State, Michigan State, Northwestern and Oklahoma State.
THE TOP DOGS ATTENDING
The five players from Fresno State that traveled to Toledo are senior Nick Watney (Dixon, Calif.), junior Chad Spencer (Rocklin, Calif.), sophomore Ryan Carter (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) freshman Ryan McDonald and sophomore Tony Harmon (Upland, Calif.)
BULLDOGS PLACE SIXTH AT TOPY CUP
Among the schools from the U.S. competing in the 11-team tournament were NCAA champions Minnesota, NCAA runner-up Clemson, Arizona State and Fresno State. Clemson finished first with a score of 830, Minnesota placed fifth with a score of 861, Fresno State finished in sixth with a final score of 874 and Arizona State finished in seventh with a score of 878.
WATNEY TAKES SECOND AT TOPY CUP
Senior Nick Watney (Dixon, Calif.) captured second place in the final round of the Topy Cup Tournament with a score of 203 (70-65-68). Watney's determination and strong second and final round pushed him up one spot and helped secure Fresno State's sixth place finish.
OTHER BULLDOGS THAT PLACED IN THE TOP 25
Junior Chad Spencer (Rocklin, Calif.) placed 24th with a final score of 218 (72-74-72) and sophomore, Ryan Carter ( Hacienda Heights, Calif.) placed 24th, tying with Spencer with a score of 218 (75-69-74). Rounding out the rest of the team was sophomore Ian Nelson( Canyon Lake, Calif.) who placed 57th with a final score of 243 (75-81-87), and junior Jeremy Moreno (Visalia, Calif.) who finished 59th with a final score of 246 (86-80-80).
MORENO TOOK FIRST IN DRIVE CONTEST
Moreno took first in the long drive contest with a drive of 350 yards. D.J. Trahan from Clemson came in second with a drive of 343.
WATNEY TO THE WHITE HOUSE
After helping the United States defend the title of the Palmer Cup, Watney and his other teammates are invited to attend a formal meeting in Washington D.C. to meet President George W. Bush. Watney is expected to visit the White House later this fall, possibly late November.
