Sept. 23, 2002
The Fresno State football team has been riddled with injuries thus far in 2002, and the Bulldogs will head into this week's game against Rice without their full complement of players. Here is a brief look at the state of the injured players:
- QB Jeff Grady: After missing the San Diego State and Oregon games with a deep bruise of his left hip, Grady suffered a right hip pointer toward the end of the first half against Oregon State, which caused him to miss the second half against the Beavers. Grady will have stiffness in his hip area for the next couple of days. If he cannot practice this week, Paul Pinegar will be the starting quarterback against Rice on Saturday. Grady is, however, expected to be ready to play in some capacity against the Owls.
- WR Bernard Berrian: The star wide receiver sprained his knee on the final play of the first quarter in the season opener against Wisconsin and has not returned to action since. He is not expected to play against Rice this week but is looking to return against Colorado State next week.
- LB Sam Williams: The starting linebacker suffered a separated shoulder against Oregon State and not expected to return for at least three weeks.
- LB David Adamo: Also a starting linebacker, Adamo sustained a dislocated elbow recovering a fumble late in the game against Oregon. He missed the Oregon State game but may return this week against Rice. Adamo is not expected to start.
- LB Marc Dailey: The signal caller of the defense missed the Oregon State game and will miss this week's game dealing with a personal emergency. He will return to action the week of the Colorado State.
- RB Rodney Davis: The starting running back suffered a slight separation of his shoulder against Oregon State and did not play much in the second half against the Beavers. He should be ready to play Saturday against Rice.
- DE Brian Morris: Projected to be the starter at the beginning of the season at end, Morris recently had ankle surgery and will miss the remainder of the year.
- CB Kendall Edwards: The starting cornerback tore his ACL against San Diego State and will miss the rest of 2002.
- LB Ricky Miller: The backup linebacker suffered a knee injury in practice during the bye week but could play this week against Rice.
- WR Deandre Gilbert: The starting wide receiver missed the Oregon State game with an ankle sprain. He made the Oregon State trip but did not play but could return this week against Rice.
