Track and Field Throwers Host Annual Weight Pentathlon

FRESNO, Calif. -- - Throwers from California State Bakersfield won individual titles at the annual Fresno State Weight Pentathlon held today at Warmerdam Field. The weight pentathlon is a combination of five different throwing events, the hammer throw, shot put, discus, javelin and weight throw. Five different schools had competitors at the event.
Chris Figures of Cal State Bakersfield won men's event with 3,912 points. Cassandra Kirk won the women's pentathlon with 3,129 points.
In the men's event, Tony Thompson of Cal State Bakersfield finished second with 3,812 points just ahead of Fresno State's Joe Vasquez, who had 3,774 points. Other Fresno State finishers in the top included Schlomi Ben-Shusan, who was sixth with 3,507 points and Dustin Lawrenson, ninth with 2,899 and Matt Studwell, 10th, 2,412. Ben-Shusan won the hammer throw at 191 feet, 4 inches.
Fresno State's Lisa Krauter finished second in the women's competition with 3,086 points. She won the discus throw at 133 feet, 8 inches. La'Sha Hill was eighth with 2,699 points, the only other Bulldog in the top 10.
"Overall, it was a solid day," said Fresno State assistant coach Chris Campbell. "We had a few people throw well in certain events and for this early in the season I was fairly pleased. We can build on this."
