Track And Field Competes At Air Force Elite Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The Fresno State track and field squad completed the final day of competition at the Air Force Elite Invitational on Saturday afternoon in their opening meet of the indoor season.
The women, who won the invitational last year with a score of 126 points, finished third with 67 points while the men placed eighth with 43 points.
Colorado State finished first in both the men's and women's events, recording 183 points on the women's side and 109 points for the men.
Sophomore Crystal Phillips (Long Beach, Calif.) turned in a couple of impressive performances for the Bulldogs over the weekend. Phillips earned a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.57 and took second with a time of 24.91 in the 200-meter dash.
Also on the women's side, junior Katie Christianson (Indian Wells, Calif.) won the 60-meter hurdle event, recording a mark of 8.82. Junior Kara June (Santa Maria, Calif.) notched a runner-up finish in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:14.29. Sophomore Jennifer Tyler (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished seventh in the 400-meter dash, checking in at 59.68.
Fresno State's 4x400 relay team of Phillips, sophomore Joni Landua (Forney, Texas), Christianson and Tyler posted a fourth place finish with a time of 4:04.39.
Sophomore Lexine Lesser (Hanford, Calif.) led all Bulldog pole vaulters on the day with a mark of 3.50m (11-05), good for a fourth place finish.
On the men's side, junior Aaron Vasquez was the top-finisher in the 400-meter dash at 48.55 to lead the field. Senior Kyle Carano (Fresno, Calif.) won the triple jump with a clip of 15.70m (51-06).
Two Bulldog seniors- Roosevelt Cook (Ontario, Calif.) and Alex Mason (Alameda, Calif.)- crossed the line third and fourth in the 800-meter run with times of 1:53.73 and 1:54.05, respectively.
Senior Kevin Carano (Fresno, Calif.) was the top Fresno State athlete in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.93. Carano was also the highest Bulldog competitor in the long jump, sliding in 10th overall with a mark of 6.60m (21-08).
The squad will compete in two events this weekend- the Reno Indoor Championships and the Road Runner Invitational hosted by Cal State Bakersfield.
