Almada/Modoc Fall in All-American Round of 16

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's top doubles duo of Hector Almada and Sergiu Modoc lost in the round of 16 of the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The sixth-seeded duo opened the tournament with an 8-2 victory over Tim Krebs and Colin Purcell of Miami (Fla.). That advanced Modoc and Almada into the round of 16, where they were upset by Felix Hardt and Ryan Redondo of San Diego State 8-4.
The loss ended the tournament for the tandem.
The Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championship, the largest single tournament in the country, offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
This event has been played annually since 1979. A number of its past participants have enjoyed successful professional tennis careers, including Todd Martin (Northwestern), MaliVai Washington (Michigan), Sargis Sargsian (Arizona State), as well as recent U.S. Davis Cup team members James Blake (Harvard), Bob and Mike Bryan (Stanford) and Brian Vahaly (Virginia). Bob Bryan won the '97 singles title, Blake the '98 singles and doubles titles and Vahaly reached the '99 singles final and '00 doubles final.
