Suta-Shearer Upended In Doubles Semifinals At Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State's Stefan Suta and Greg Shearer dropped a hard-fought 9-8 (4) decision to UCLA's Alberto Francis and Krzstof Kwinta in a main draw semifinal at the Bulldog Tennis Clasic on Sunday morning.
The loss was the first of the tournament for the Bulldog duo, while UCLA's Francis and Kwinta eventually captured the doubles title later in the afternoon with an 8-6 victory over California's tandem of Tyler Browne and Dean Wallace.
Senior Alex Krohn, the only other Bulldog in action on Sunday morning, fell 7-6, 6-3 to San Diego State's Mirza Koristovic in a consolation backdraw singles final.
In singles competition, UCLA's Francis earned his second title of the tournament. Francis defeated USC's Drew Hoskins 6-4, 6-4 in the championship match. Romain Massaro of UNLV was crowned the singles champion of flight B after registering a 7-6 (3), 6-2 triumph over Washington's Daniel Chu.
The flight C singles title was awarded to Linus Cicenas of Loyola Marymount, as he downed teammate Carlos Malet 6-4, 6-0 for the win.
The Bulldogs now turn their attention to the ITA Fall Regional Championships, scheduled to begin Oct. 22 in Los Angeles.
