Almada Named WAC Men's Tennis Player of the Month

DENVER - Fresno State's Hector Almada has been named September's Western Athletic Conference men's tennis player of the month.
Almada, Fresno State's No. 1 singles player the past two years, went 2-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles at the Polo Tennis Collegiate Tournament in Tulsa, Okla. In one of his singles wins, the 76th-ranked Almada defeated No. 74 Antonio Ruiz of Texas. In doubles, Almada teamed with Sergiu Modoc to win twice. The pair is currently ranked sixth in the nation.
OTHERS NOMINATED ? Boise State's Thomas Schoeck advanced to the championship of the HEB Baylor Invitational. He also went 2-1 in doubles with partner Guillaume Bouvier in the same tournament ... Nevada's Rudi Leuschner advanced to the semifinals of the Pacific Fall Invitational to start the season 2-1 ? Tulsa's Shunsuke Shimizu finished the month 4-2 in singles play, while gathering 2-3 mark in doubles.
