- The win improved Fresno State's overall record against Rice to 5-0, including 3-0 at Bulldog Stadium. The Bulldogs are the only team currently a member of the WAC that the Owls have not beaten.
- Bryson Sumlin made the first start of his career at running back. He rushed 12 times for 41 yards and two touchdowns.
- Paul Pinegar's first quarter interception was his first since Fresno State beat Nevada last year 38-30, a span of six games.
- Matt Rivera scored his first career touchdown with a 20-yard reception in the second quarter.
- Tonight's attendance was 39,462, the second consecutive home game the Bulldogs have drawn at least 39,000. It is also the 25th consecutive home game with an attendance of 35,000 or more.
- Fresno State improved to 33-5 all-time at home under Pat Hill. They are also 25-3 in WAC home games under Hill.
- Brett Visintainer's game-winning field goal was his second of the year, to go along with his clincher against Oregon State. This time, Visintainer was true from 39 yards out. The redshirt junior was 3-for-3, including field goals of 43 and 45 yards earlier in the game.
- Fresno State improved to 8-1 under Hill following byes.
- The victory was career No. 50 for Hill. Fresno State had lost in its two previous attempts to get Hill his 50th.
- Fresno State is now 4-0 at home and 0-4 on the road in 2003. Its next two games are both away from Fresno.
- Rice racked up a season-high total of 384 rushing yards. The Owls only had as much as 300 in one other game, that being in an overtime loss at Duke. Their 418 yards in total offense was also a season high.
- Rice's rushing total was also the most yards Fresno State has allowed on the ground this season.
- James Sanders' blocked field goal was his second block of 2003 and Fresno State's seventh blocked kicked of the year.
- Fresno State's 20 points in the first half was the most it has scored in the opening 30 minutes this year.
