GOLF HEADS TO HAWAII
The Bulldogs are traveling to Hawaii this week to compete in the Taylor Made Waikoloa Invitational in Hilo, Hawaii. The five-man squad includes senior Nick Watney, junior Chad Spencer, freshman Ryan McDonald, junior Jeremy Moreno and sophomore Mark Modglin. There will be 26 teams competing on the 72 par course at the Waikoloa Resort. Last season the Bulldogs finished third out of 24 teams, while individually, Watney finished second with a score of 211 (72-68-71).
'DOGS FINISH 13th AT ARIZONA
The golf team traveled to Tucson, Ariz. last week and competed in the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate hosted by Arizona. The team finished 13th out of 16 teams with a final third round score of 865, 36 strokes under first place Arizona. Individually, senior Nick Watney finished 26th with a score of 213, junior Jeremy Moreno tied for 38th with a score of 215, junior Chad Spencer tied for 52nd with a score of 218, sophomore Ian Nelson tied for 54th with a score of 219 and freshman Ryan McDonald tied for 79th with a score of 230.
FALL REVIEW
The fall season was proved to be a dedicated season. With six tournaments under their belt, the Bulldogs captured five Top 10 finishes with two championship titles from the Fresno State-Lexus Classic and the Alister MacKenzie tournament. There are seven more tournaments left in the spring until the WAC championship in late April. The WAC championship will be hosted by Rice.
WATNEY RANKED NO.1 IN THE NATION
Senior Nick Watney has been ranked No.1 in two national polls released on Oct. 17 in the Golfstat Cups Standings and the GolfWeek/Sagarin Performance Index. Watney won his fourth consecutive title Oct. 21-22 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational which helped Watney leap to the No. 1 spot. Watney has a season scoring average of 68.67. "In college it's rare to win four tournaments in a career," said head coach Mike Watney, who is in his 25th season. "Nick has built such an impressive resume." Watney entered his senior year with a scoring average of 70.53.
'DOGS WIN TITLE AT FRESNO STATE-LEXUS CLASSIC
The 'Dogs captured their own title at the Fresno State-Lexus Golf Classic held at San Joaquin Country Club, Oct. 11-12. Fresno State finished 6-over-par finishing with a final score of 870 (289-295-286). Fresno State's No. 2 team finished 17th with a final score of 921 (319-302-300). 'Dogs on the Fresno State team were senior Nick Watney, junior Chad Spencer, sophomore Ryan Carter, freshman Ryan McDonald and freshman Jeremy Moreno (Visalia, Calif.) . 'Dogs on Fresno State #2 team were sophomore Tony Harmon(Upland, Calif.), sophomore Ian Nelson (Canyon Lake, Calif.), sophomore George McKean (Kingsburg, Calif.), sophomore Mark Modglin (Simi Valeey, Calif.) and freshman Tyler Sanders.
