FRESNO, Calif. - No. 17-ranked Fresno State rode another strong effort in singles from Chloe Carlotti to a 5-2 victory over Rice at the Wathen Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The win is the Bulldogs' 10th in a row at home and ran their record to 4-3. The Owls fell to 3-5.
Fresno State grabbed an early 1-0 by taking two of three doubles. The Nos. 2 and 3 teams won for the Bulldogs.
In singles, it was once again Carlotti at No. 1 who stole the show. The sophomore improved to 7-0 in dual matches with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Blair DiSesa. Carlotti, ranked No. 27 in the country, is now 16-5 on the season. New singles rankings are released Wednesday, and it is expected Carlotti will move up into the top 20.
Also posting singles victories were Lucia Tallo at No. 3, Kathrin Winterhalter at No. 5 and Kristy McRae at No. 6.
"Rice is a good team, and I was impressed that we were able to come out and get a win," head coach Kevin Epley said. "It was very nice to return home and get back to our familiar surroundings. We were on the road for a while there, so to come back to Fresno and play in front of the home fans was a nice feeling."
The Bulldogs don't return to the court until they host BYU on March 3 at 2 p.m. at the Wathen Tennis Center.
