What's Coming Up
Fresno State (6-4) takes this week off in preparation for road matches against 10th-ranked Washington on March 8 and a neutral-site match against No. 53 San Diego on March 8.
What Just Happened
The Bulldogs improved to 6-4 this year with home victories over Loyola Marymount, UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis. On Saturday, Fresno State defeated LMU 5-2 by winning the doubles and taking four singles matches. The following day, the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader by defeating both UCSC and UCD 7-0. Stefan Suta, Greg Shearer and Marc Schaerer all went 2-0 in singles and doubles in the two matches.
All-Time vs. Next Week's Opponents
The Bulldogs are 5-2 all-time against Washington and 7-0 against San Diego. Fresno State hasn't taken on the Huskies since 1996 and hasn't lost to them since 1992. The Bulldogs last battled the Toreros in 2000, a 7-0 victory. In fact, Fresno State has swept USD the last two matches.
Something New
Fresno State's three home wins last weekend improved the team to 6-4 on the year, this coming one season after the team was never once two matches above .500. In addition, the Bulldogs now have a three-match winning streak, just the second such string in two years.
A Tough March
The Bulldogs enter the month of March with momentum gained from victories in three matches last weekend. This momentum will be very important as Fresno State now enters one of its most difficult stretches of the season. The team is scheduled to play four dual matches during the month, all of which come against teams currently nationally ranked. In addition, the Bulldogs will be playing in the Blue-Gray Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala. While there, they are guaranteed to face some of the country's best programs.
