FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State made its home opener a happy one as the Bulldogs cruised to a 7-0 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday at the Wathen Tennis Center.
After grabbing a 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point, Fresno State won five of six singles matches in straight sets. The only Bulldog to struggle was Greg Shearer at No. 3. He split the first two sets with Julien Chatelan before a super-tiebreaker was played for the third, which was won by Shearer 10-6.
The win improved Shearer's mark in dual matches this year to 3-1, the most wins on the team.
Hector Almada cruised at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Matt Jones.
Fresno State plays again Sunday at noon against San Francisco.
