SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.- Several Bulldogs athletes earned first-place finishes at the Cal Poly Invitational on Saturday afternoon, representing the opening event of the outdoor season. The non-team scoring meet featured participants from Fresno State, Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine.
Sophomore Crystal Phillips (Long Beach, Calif.) was the only Fresno State entrant to register two first-place finishes on the afternoon. Phillips won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.86 and captured the title in the 200-meters when she crossed the line at 24.35- a career-best.

Fresno State's 4x100-meter relay squad also had an impressive showing, clocking in at 47.91 to take first place. The Bulldog women's squad consistently placed several athletes among the top-three qualifiers of all events, including junior Katie Christianson (Indian Wells, Calif.)- who finished in the top-three on three occasions and senior Lisa Krauter (Clovis, Calif.)- who took third in the javelin and discus.
On the men's side, Fresno State collected six first-place finishes. The Bulldogs, which also garnered the best time in the 4x400-meter relay at 3:14.70, were led in the running events by sophomore Reggie Allen (Fresno, Calif.) and Phil Ogilvie (Clarksburg, Calif.). Allen took first in the 400-meter run with a time of 48.68 and Ogilvie was the leader in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 9:27.37.
Sophomore Russell Weaver (Clovis, Calif.) continued Fresno State's pole vaulting success this year with yet another first-place finish, winning the event at 4.90m. Freshman Dustin Lawrenson's (Elk Grove, Calif.) throw of 52.64 in the discus was good enough to win the event, while senior Kyle Carano (Fresno, Calif.) placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 15.15m.
Junior Aaron Vasquez (Merced, Calif.) was second in his section of the 200-meter run at 21.56- the time representing a season-best.
