FRESNO, Calif. - Senior righthander Josh Glynn scattered two runs on five hits over seven innings to help lead Fresno State to an 8-4 win over Louisiana Tech Sunday at Beiden Field. With the win, Fresno State recorded its first three-game series sweep of the season.
Fresno State has now won four in a row and 13 of its last 14 games to improve to 18-13 overall and 5-1 in the WAC while Louisiana Tech fell to 10-18-1 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
Glynn (2-4) struck out two over a career high seven innings to win his second straight decision and his first as a starter this season. The seven innings tied junior righty Cody Smith (March 2 at Pepperdine) for the longest outing by a Bulldog starter this season.
Fresno State plated four runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 it would never relinquish. Junior catcher Brandon Marcelli opened the scoring with a two-run double down the right field line. Junior infielder Ryan Haag added an RBI single and junior infielder Chris Patrick plated sophomore infielder Kyle Atrat with a sacrifice bunt to cap the scoring.
FS senior outfielder Scott Beshears went 2-for-4 including a two-run single in a four-run eighth inning to lead the squad at the plate. The two hits marked Beshears' eighth multi-hit contest of the season. Freshman catcher Kent Sakamoto tallied his fifth multi-hit effort of the year going 2-for-3 with two singles.
Louisiana Tech starter Matt Varner (2-4) surrendered four runs on four hits while walking three and striking out three over 2 2/3 innings to pick up the loss.
Tech's Jeremy Alford clubbed his fourth homer of the year with a solo shot in the third to give the squad its first run of the game. Ben Tabor (2-4) and Wade Robinson (2-4) paced La Tech at the plate with multi-hit efforts.
Fresno State returns to action Friday when it opens a three-game series at conference rival San Jose State at 7 p.m.
