FRESNO, Calif. - Senior Lindsay Logan (Sandy, Utah) was named most valuable player at the 2003 Fresno State women's basketball awards banquet on Sunday night at the North Gym.
The banquet, themed a "Farewell to the North Gym" was the Bulldog's first postseason banquet since the 2000-01 campaign. The team did not hold a banquet last year.
Several team and individual awards were presented during the banquet, which was attended by approximately 300 people. University President Dr. John D. Welty, athletics director Scott Johnson and former men's basketball head coach Jerry Tarkanian were among those in attendance.
The most prestigious award of all went to Logan, who scored in double figures 22 times this year, and finished second on the team in scoring at 12.1 ppg. She started all 34 games and was tops on the squad in minutes played (1075) and assists (89). The senior guard became Fresno State's career leader in assists on Nov. 29 in a 63-60 win over Butler, and then went on to break the school's career three-point field goal record in the Dec. 4 win over Santa Clara. Logan was the Bulldog's leading scorer on nine different occasions and the team's best three-point shooter with 61 triples. She has 272 treys for her career, and her 215 steals currently rank third all-time.
Also highlighting the event was a live auction, which included two prizes. The first- a pizza party with the women's basketball team at John's Incredible Pizza followed with an afternoon session at Color-Me-Mine ceramic studio- went for $325. The second prize- two seats on the team bench for Fresno State's first game in the Save Mart Center next year, including an appearance at the team's pre-game meal and a limousine ride to the arena- sold for $700.
