FRESNO, Calif. - One day after suffering its first home loss of the season, the 42nd-ranked Fresno State men's tennis team bounced back to blank Cal Poly 7-0 on Saturday morning at the Wathen Tennis Center.
The victory continued the Bulldogs' recent domination of the Mustangs. Fresno State has now defeated Cal Poly (13-11) nine times in a row, with the last five matches decided by a combined score of 52-4.
The Bulldogs (15-7) put away any thought of a letdown following yesterday's emotional 5-2 home loss to No. 24 Pepperdine by immediately jumping ahead 1-0 by winning the doubles point. At No. 1, 23rd-ranked Hector Almada and Sergiu Modoc won 8-1, their fifth victory in the their last six matches. The duo is now 13-4 on the year.
In singles, every Bulldog won his match in straight sets. At No. 6, Alex Krohn celebrated his 21st birthday in style by winning his seventh in a row with a 6-2, 6-2 dispatching of Adrian Mardyks.
The top of Fresno State's lineup was equally dominant. Hector Almada recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win over Stacy Meronoff at No. 1 while at No. 2, Stefan Suta didn't monkey around with Davey Jones, winning 6-1, 6-2.
The Bulldogs take a quick break then return to the court at 2 p.m. for a match against Nevada. It is Fresno State's regular season finale.
