FRESNO, Calif. - Riding a four-match winning streak and having already eclipsed their victory total for all of last year, the Fresno State men's tennis team improved to 38th in the latest edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings, released today.
The Bulldogs, who had been No. 45, are as high as they have been in the poll since the end of the 2000-01 season. Fresno State entered this year unranked but have moved up in the team rankings each time they have been released.
The men's team is currently 11-6 and play each of their six remaining matches at home. Highlighting the schedule is a match against No. 29 Pepperdine on April 18 at the Wathen Tennis Center.
Rice is the highest ranked men's WAC team at No. 26. Other conference schools appearing in the national poll are SMU at No. 49, Boise State at No. 54 and Tulsa at No. 56.
The women's team slipped two spots to No. 25. Fresno State, currently 9-7, was as high as No. 16 in mid-March but has split its last six matches.
Like the men, the women also play each of their remaining regular season matches at home. The Bulldogs host Idaho, Northern Arizona and Santa Clara this weekend.
Fresno State is also the highest ranked WAC team in the women's poll. Other league schools appearing in the rankings are Tulsa at No. 46 and Boise State at No. 50.
