FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State continued its torrid play of late by winning its fifth consecutive match with a 5-2 victory over Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon at the Wathen Tennis Center.
The winning streak is the longest since the Bulldogs won six in a row in April 2001. Since Feb. 22, Fresno State has won eight of its 10 matches. The Broncos (7-12) lost their third in a row.
Fresno State (12-6) cruised to a 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles, the third consecutive match it has done so. The Bulldogs improved to 10-0 this year when claiming the doubles point.
In singles, the Bulldogs were paced by the top of their lineup, which dropped only 10 games between the Nos. 1-3 players. Hector Almada paced the trio with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Erich Chen at No. 1.
Also winning in straight sets for Fresno State was Andy Sinn at No. 5. He defeated Ben Hidalgo 6-1, 6-3.
Next up for the Bulldogs is a match tomorrow against No. 70 UC Santa Barbara at 2 p.m. at the Wathen Tennis Center. Fans interested in attending are reminded that tomorrow is the beginning of daylight savings time. Please remember to turn your clocks one hour forward tonight.
