Track And Field Sits In Fourth Place At WAC Championships

EL PASO, Texas- Fresno State track and field slipped to the middle of the pack on Friday during the third day of the 2003 WAC Outdoor Championships, as the men (35 points) and women (32 points) both stand in fourth place.
SMU currently leads the men's field with 72 points, followed by Rice (57), Boise State (53) and the Bulldogs. On the women's side, Nevada has tallied 85 points and has a healthy lead over Rice (42.5), Louisiana Tech (35) and Fresno State.
One day after junior Trevor Chatterton (Concord, Calif.) captured the decathlon title, the Bulldogs failed to place any athlete in first place of any event on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Reggie Allen (Fresno, Calif.) took third in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 47.39, while senior Joe Vasquez (Selma, Calif.) threw a career-best in the hammer with a toss of 60.48m (198-05)- also an NCAA Regional qualifier.
Senior Alex Mason (Alameda, Calif.) was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1.53.90.
On the women's side, junior Kara June (Santa Maria, Calif.) ran a 10:50.12 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead all competitors. The next closest entrant, Erin Seward of Nevada, ran an 11:11.75.
Senior Mandy Hollister (Turlock, Calif.) finished third in the 400-meter hurdles, checking in at 1:01.08, a personal-best.
The action continues on Saturday afternoon in the fourth and final day of competition.
