Baseball Falls to Nevada, 7-5

RENO, Nev. - Designated hitter Taylor Pullins lined a game-tying two-run double with two out in the seventh inning to key a four-run rally and help lead Nevada past Fresno State 7-5 Saturday at Peccole Park.
The Bulldogs dropped to 27-27 overall and 12-14 in the WAC while the Wolf Pack improved to 30-22 overall and 17-8 in conference play.
Pullins tallied two of the Wolf Pack's 13 hits for the game. Outfielder Chris Gimenez notched an RBI single to open the scoring for Nevada in the seventh and outfielder Chris Dickerson capped the rally with a run scoring single to give the Wolf Pack a 5-4 lead.
Fresno State plated three runs in the top of the seventh to snap a 1-1 tie. Junior catcher Brandon Marcelli scored on a throwing error by pitcher Bryan Johnson and senior outfielder Scott Beshears laced a two-run single to right field to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 advantage. Beshears went 3-4 with three RBI to log his sixth three-hit game of the year and lead the squad at the plate.
The Wolf Pack added two runs in eighth on a two-run double by outfielder Jacob Butler to give them a 7-4 lead.
Zacahary Basch (3-3) scattered a run on four hits over 2 1/3 innings in relief to record his third victory of the season.
Sophomore righthander Chad Edwards (2-2) surrendered Pullins' game tying hit and allowed four runs on seven hits over 1 1/3 innings in relief to pick up the loss.
The series wraps up Sunday at 1 p.m. PDT. Fresno State junior righty Cody Smith (7-4, 3.78) is scheduled to oppose Nevada senior righthander Eddie Bonine (4-5, 5.87).
