Fresno - As the college football season draws closer, the Fresno State Bulldog went through their first scrimmage of fall camp Tuesday afternoon. Head coach Pat Hill ran his team through 135 plays.
Hill was pleased with the team's intensity and overall performance.
"This was the eighth straight day of practice, so the guys' legs are tired," Hill said. "But what pleased me most is that we didn't have very many mental mistakes. We only had one false start and a couple of turnovers. For being tired and running so many plays, so that's a good sign."
The scrimmage was highlighted by several strong individual performances, including freshman running back Robbie Dubois, who made a couple nice runs, including a weaving 57-yarder. Dubois scored two touchdowns in goal line situations. Junior kicker Brett Visintainer made four field goal attempts longer than 40 yards and barely missed a 52-yard kick that sailed wide right.
Sophomore quarterback Paul Pinegar was also sharp. He connected with All-American receiver Bernard Berrian, who made a beautiful leaping catch in the back of the endzone for a 4 yard touchdown.
The Bulldogs have two practices scheduled for Wednesday. The next scrimmage will be Saturday. Hill announced that beginning Saturday through the Tennessee game, all practices will be closed to the public.
"We have had a great show of fan support at our practices so far and we appreciate that," Hill said. "We have some big games ahead of us starting with Tennessee and we really need to focus on the task at hand."
Ticket packages, including two Family Value Packages, remain available through the Fresno State ticket office by calling (559) 278-DOGS or online at www.gobulldogs.com.
