FRESNO, Calif. - On a beautiful summer morning, Pat Hill's Bulldog football team took to the field for the first time of fall camp. Hill welcomed 105 players to the opening practice held at the Fresno State practice facility on campus.
The Bulldogs open the 2003 season at Tennessee, ranked in the top 25 in every preseason poll, later this month and looked like a well-oiled machine after one day of practice.
"This was a good crisp practice," Hill said. "There is a lot of excitement in this group. They have worked extremely hard all spring and summer to get ready for this. We are now less than a month away from the start of the season. Our young guys are going to have to learn the pace we expect to run practice, but that will come. I've been impressed with the leadership of our veteran players and how hard they have worked to prepare for the season. It's an exciting time."
The Bulldogs are taking on the most adventurous schedule in school history, opening with three consecutive games against Tennessee, hosting Oregon State in the home opener Sept. 5, and No. 1 Oklahoma Sept. 13. Additionally, the Bulldogs travel to nationally ranked Colorado State Oct. 4 and will host defending WAC Champion Boise State Nov. 21.
The Bulldogs resume practice at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday. The first scrimmage is scheduled for August 21. Practices are open to the public.
Season and single game tickets remain on sale through the Bulldog Ticket Office at (559) 278-DOGS or online at www.gobulldogs.com.
