Andy Sinn wasn't so lucky. He lost his Flight B match to Olof Sjolund of Tulsa 7-5, 6-3.
In doubles, the only Fresno State tandem to win was sixth-ranked Almada and Sergiu Modoc, who topped Texas' Pete Stroer and Jimmy Haney 9-8 (4). Losing in Flight A doubles were the teams of No. 38 Shearer and Suta as well as Krohn and Sinn.
"It's nice to get back out on the court and get some competition under our belts," head coach Brad Dancer said. "This tournament gives us a great opportunity to play a lot of matches against some tough teams. It also gets us ready for some of our big fall tournaments, and we're doing it at a place where we hope to end up playing in May."
The NCAA Tournament is hosted by the University of Tulsa in May 2004.
The Polo National College Tournament is a flighted competition and features some of the best programs in the nation. Nationally-ranked programs such as Texas A&M, Texas, Arkansas, Rice, Oklahoma and host Tulsa are participating.
