- Fresno State improved to 5-0 all-time against Portland State, including 3-0 under Pat Hill.
- Tonight's crowd of 39,805 was the largest of the year.
- Nate Ray picked up Bernard Berrian's fumble on the opening kickoff and ran 70 yards for a touchdown. It was his second TD of his career.
- The Bulldogs blocked a punt in the game, their sixth block of the year, tying their total for all of last year. It was the 46th block since Hill took over in 1997.
- Nate Ray's TD in the first quarter was Fresno State's first points in the opening stanza in 2003.
- Bryson Sumlin had three touchdowns on the ground in the game and was the first Bulldog to rush for three scores since Jaime Kimbrough on Oct. 31, 1998.
- Sumlin's first touchdown came the first time he touched the ball on the evening. It was a 26-yard score.
- Dwayne Wright rushed for 113 yards and a TD, the second week in a row he has rumbled for over 100.

- Portland State racked up 257 yards on the ground despite entering the game ranked 119th in rushing in Division I-AA.
- Manuel Sanchez picked off his third pass of the year, a team high.
- Fresno State's 42 points was its most of 2003.
- The Bulldogs were playing with heavy hearts tonight. Prior to the game, WR Jaron Fairman's father passed away from an apparent heart attack. Nonetheless, Fairman played and scored his first career touchdown in the fourth quarter.
- Ryan Fuqua rushed for 194 yards in the game, making him the first RB to run for at least 170 yards in a loss to Fresno State since Deonce Whitaker had 177 in a 24-21 Bulldog victory over San Jose State on Nov. 21, 1998.
