FRESNO, Calif. - Greg Shearer's ITA Icy Hot All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn., ended quickly with first round losses in the main draw and consolation singles brackets.
The unseeded senior opened the tournament with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to ninth-seeded Ken Skupski of LSU. Skupski eventually advanced to the semifinals.
That defeat dropped Shearer into the consolation draw, and things didn't get any better. He lost to Washington's Christoph Palmanshofer 7-5, 7-5, eliminating him from play.
The tournament was the first of the fall season for any Bulldog. The team's play has been curtailed as the school's searches for a replacement for former head coach Brad Dancer, who resigned just prior to the year.
Next up for the Bulldogs is the ITA Regional Championships, which begin Oct. 22 in Berkeley, Calif.
Greg Shearer
1st round: lost to (9) Ken Skupski (LSU), 6-3, 6-2
1st round consolation: lost to Christoph Palmanshofer (UW), 7-5, 7-5
