Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State Baseball Hall of Fame inducted the Class of 2004 Thursday night at Pardini's Restaurant. Among the members inducted were former Major League manager Jimy Williams, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Jeff Weaver, 1950's outfielder Don George and the 1988 baseball team, a team which finished with a record of 56-12, and was known as an offensive powerhouse.
Among the members in attendance that were honored was Jim Pardini, in a special presentation from Ron Schiller and head coach Mike Batesole. Pardini was named an honorary member of the team, thanks to his years of help with the baseball team and the alumni.
Following that presentation came the inductions. Speaking of their own experiences with Fresno State Baseball, all three were graciously accepted into the Hall of Fame by the appreciative crowd.
Finally, the 1988 team was inducted. One of the most successful in Fresno State history, the team posted a 32-game winning streak, a no. 1 ranking and finished the season with an impressive .350 batting average as a team.
First baseman Lance Shebulut explained how he felt about the team. "Walking into this room, I look at my family, I look at your families, and you know what? We've really done alright," Shebulut said.
The 1988 team was the second team to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, following the 1959 squad. Williams, George, Weaver and the 1988 team join other Hall of Fame members such as former coaches Pete Beiden and Bob Bennett as well as former Major Leaguers like Bobby Jones, Mark Gardner and Dan Gladden.
