FRESNO, Calif. - Lucia Tallo lost in straight sets and has been eliminated from the consolation qualifying singles bracket at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, being played this week in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Tallo, ranked 76th in the nation, fell 6-3, 6-3 to No. 79 Megan Rancette of Iowa in the second round of consolation singles. The loss ended Tallo's tournament after she went 1-2.
"Lucia was beaten by a player on her game today," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "It wasn't as if Lucia played terribly. But Rancette really showed up and took control. She deserved to win."
The All-American Tournament is the biggest of the fall season. It includes a 128-player singles and 64-team doubles pre-qualifying draw played at UCLA. Those feed into a 64-player and 32-team qualifying tournament played at the Riviera Country Club. The 32-player and 16-team main draw begins play Thursday.
